Virginia Tech, U of Richmond work together on Beer Brewer Professional Certificate

Students can now be guided through the craft brewing process with the help of Virginia Tech and the University of Richmond. As an initiative to offer their community of learners more options, “When students complete the program, they are prepared to enter the craft brewing industry in a variety of roles,” said Robyn Smith, program manager for Virginia Tech. “The goal is to give them the skills to make them more marketable or to open opportunities for advancement.”

According to the release, brewery owners and managers in southwest Virginia have expressed their desire to have a program like this to pull talent from. Some of those businesses may even end up being the site for a few of the classes, since along with the Virginia Tech Roanoke Center, partnering breweries will open their doors.

The year-long non-credit course begins November 12th and costs $2,499 according to the release from the universities.

Applications with an essay can begin being filled in June, and there will be a maximum of 20 students allowed to participate.
